16 Minerva Works, 158 Fazeley Street, B5 5RS Birmingham, United Kingdom
Vivid Projects & Ryan Hughes, Office for Art, Design & Technology are pleased to present an evening discussion with Heath Bunting, an early pioneer of Net.Art. Heath Bunting is a British artist based in Bristol, UK, and is best known as a net activist and co- founder of irational.org. Since the 90s, his work has used networks and particularly the internet as a way to disrupt formal proceedings in the 'real' world, focusing on open democratic systems and social structures on the Internet and in the public space.
He is co-founder of net.art and has been commissioned by organisations including: Tate Modern, Transmediale, Documenta X, The Banff Centre, Lovebytes Festival, Art Teleportacia, Moscow, ICA, London, The InterCommunication Center (ICC), Tokyo and Watershed, UK.
Heath will discuss his 2002 work exhibited in Dot.Art, BorderXing Guide and his wider practice. BorderXing Guide is a website documenting his work illegally moving between countries and providing notes on how others can do the same. It includes walks that traverse national boundaries, without interruption from customs, immigration, or border police, and comments on the ways in which movement between borders is restricted by governments and associated bureaucracies.
Part of Museums at Night 2017.
Admission free, donations welcome.
