This day marks 70 years since Jacob Epstein's Lucifer came to Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery. We have decided to celebrate with a birthday tea party in the Edwardian Tearooms, wear your wings if you have any!
The statue is a very popular art work in the Round Room, and some people will also remember it when it took residence in the Edwardian Tearooms, before he returned to his prime spot welcoming visitors as they walk into the museum.
There will be a tea/coffee and cake offer from 3.30pm to 5pm, with winged cupcakes especially for the occasion! The museum will stay open until 5.45pm.
Contemporary Art curator Lisa Beauchamp will be offering some short talks on Epstein's Lucifer, and we'll be asking everyone to gather around Lucifer for a photo at 4pm. Wear your party wings!
This event is part of our #MuseumWeek celebrations. Enjoy this celebration and participate in special activities, exhibits and promotions during this fun-filled week.
Today is dedicated to «books and museums» #BooksMW. Epstein's inspiration for Lucifer comes from John Milton's epic poem Paradise Lost, first published in 1667.
The whole week also has a «Women and Culture» theme #WomenMW. Use these hashtags on social media to share.
