The legendary Birmingham Monkathon returns for a staggering 9-day event to mark the centenary of Thelonious Monk.
You can hear Monk's entire repertoire across the city at a variety of venues by a wide range of groups, projects, guest artists and soloists.
On this gig, we are very excited to be feautring saxophonist François Théberge (jazz professor at Paris Conservatoire), alongside our very own David Ferris. The format will be slightly different this eveing, featuring 3 sets of music, so get down promptly to catch them all!
9pm — François teams up with jazz students at Birmingham Conservatoire to play the remaining Monk compositions to complete Monkathon 2017
10pm — François Théberge Quartet (with Hans Koller, Mark Hodgson and Andrew Bain)
11pm — Student led «reimagining Monk» project featuring David Ferris
This will be followed by a jam session until late with this month's host Sam Ingvorsen. As usual, a suggested £5 donation keeps the jazz happening every week, and there will be cheap drinks all night!
