Through recordings old and new, Roger Neill
will explore bel canto singing in the early 18th
century through the vocal lineage that runs
from Porpora through two Manuel Garcias and
Mathilde Marchesi to singers of recent times
– Maria Callas and Joan Sutherland, Kiri Te
Kanawa and Meryl Streep, plus a whole new
generation of counter-tenors rediscovering the
world of the castrati.
Neill is the author of the recently-published
DIVAS: Mathilde Marchesi and her Pupils.
