Unit 4, Minerva Works, 158 Fazeley Street, B5 5RT Birmingham, United Kingdom
On 11 November (11am – 3pm) arts collective Eastern States of Queer will host a KILIM* making workshop and discussion for children and families in the Centrala Space
*KILIM traditionally refers to the decorative piece of heavy woven fabric that originated in Balkan tribes, which was hanged on the walls to keep homes warm. On November 11th (11:00 – 15:00) Eastern States of Queer invites kids and parents to bring their old clothes and fabrics (and anything else that makes them feel cosy) to Centrala Gallery in Minerva Works and help us design and create new type of social KILIM. While making this piece of artwork, we will be talking about our local diversity and when, and where we feel most comfortable and secure.
Video Invitation by Eastern States of Queer:
Eastern States of Queer(ESQ) is a networking group created by CENRALA SPACE (Birmingham) that focuses on the state of the Eastern and Central Europe queer social and political issues, especially in relation to contemporary discourses on globalisation and EU internal expatriation. As a group, our aim is to respond and to develop the innovative and modern theories around gender, sexuality and queer art practices and to create an open and alive network of LGBT+ from Eastern and Central Europe people living and working in West Midlands.
