The Birmingham Footnotes Comedy Society
University of Birmingham, B31 4 Birmingham, United Kingdom
It’s that time of year… the time for change…the time for farewells…YES it’s our AGM (Annual Goat… General Meeting)
It’s time for our 2017-18 committee to depart and make way for an entirely new committee for 2018-19
The AGM is for members to run, vote and propose constitutional changes. If you wish to view our constitution, you can do so by requesting a copy via our email or Facebook page. If you wish to run for committee, here’s how…
Prepare a 2 min speech MAX for one of the positions below. An ideal speech would include:
1. Which position you wish to run for
2. Who you are
3. Some relevant traits/experience suitable for the role
4. Any ideas you have for the society, whether these are new or some things you wish to keep
5. Why Footnotes?
If you cannot make the AGM on Wednesday 14th March 5-10pm in Harvey Milk, please submit your speech for a friend or committee member to read aloud by the Tuesday to [email protected]
For your vote to count in the AGM, you must stay to see all candidates for that role and we highly recommend you stay for the whole AGM, which shouldn’t take the full time. If you will be late or need to leave early, please contact us in advance.
Please note that the order below is the order the AGM will be run in. This means that you are more than welcome to run for more than one role but, for example, if you run for Vice President and intend to run for Press and Publicity, you cannot run for the latter if you are successful at the first, unless you wish to give up your position of VP.
These are the roles up for grabs…don’t hesitate to contact any member of the committee if you have any more questions about the role in question.
President – Currently Abbi Greenwood
The steerer of the ship. The President of the HAHAs. The President is the friendly face of the society, ensuring questions, qualms and queries are dealt with and everything runs smoothly. Does a bit of everything but mostly ensures everyone does their job, our constitution is upheld and the members/ committee get the best opportunities available. Candidates should be happy to run meetings, attend events regularly, be confident to speak on behalf of members at guild wide events and be around to sign a lot.
Vice President – Currently Sarah Allwright
The best pal to the pres. The VP is the big sister/brother to the committee and society, jumping in when the President cannot be there. Fulfilling regular committee tasks, as well as being there for a shoulder to lean/cry on. Candidates ideally would be generally enthusiastic, organised, have a good relationship with the President and be happy to attend events.
Treasurer- Currently George Bandy
Money for the honeyz. In charge of the accounts, the group’s spending and show budgets. Candidates should be ok at the maths thing, frequently access the group accounts with regular statements and be around to be the second signature to sign off forms. Any proposals will be given the once over by the treasurer and they are in charge of big budget things like Edinburgh and grant forms.
Secretary- Currently Emma Poole
Organisation is your middle name (or maybe it’s Paul). You take the minutes in the meetings and general meetings, making sure everyone knows of their tasks for the week ahead. Should be good at spreadsheets, google docs, on it at replying to emails and messages and generally being the mastermind behind the group. There are a lot of forms to fill out! Liaises with other group secretaries to sort out show dates and spaces for rehearsals. Most importantly, is in charge of the maze of room bookings, sending off forms to get the group’s room for the term and organising this into an easily accessible spreadsheet for everyone.
Head Writer – Currently Maddie Taylor
Heads up the weekly writer’s meetings. These are your baby! Candidates would ideally be regular attendees of the meetings, love writing and sorting sketches and happy to head up these meetings. These weekly meetings will be run by you as you print off the sketches, assign potential themes, facilitate constructive discussions about work proposed and vet material. Any written feedback is also given by you, as well as fulfilling other Footnotes-y tasks.
Stand Up Directors X2 – Currently Chaz Webb and Wil Metcalfe
A relatively new role, which is split between two! TWO PEOPLE CAN RUN YIPEE! Your role is to direct the One Night Stand Ups and other stand up nights alike. Must have a passion for standing up, aware of our constitution and regulations and be organised at organising events. The two ONSU’s a term will be organised by you, including getting and vetting acts and their sets, assigning buddies and compering on the night if no one else is assigned. Generally in charge of stand up and opportunities alike. It’s a big role so it’s split between two!
Events Officer- Currently Rachel Baker
Officing the events since the birth of Footnotes. The events officer gets all of our Facebook events up and running, inviting all our members and organising the annual Footboats ball! Any venues that need ringing, this is your person to do it! Must be organised, willing to help stand up directors with venue organisation and aiding the social sec to run socials.
Press and Publicity- Currently Abbie Cooper
Putting the social in social media. Press and exposure is important so this role is extremely rewarding and fun. Candidates should be nifty with the old Facebook, Insta, Twitter etc (RIP Club Penguin). From a good ol’ poster and cover photo to sharing things on Guild Drama, making sure members aware of our events and ensuring a good turn out is all part of the role.
Social Secretary- Currently Kirsty Bennett
Making Footnotes the most social ever! From nights out to sober socials, a chance for members to get together and just have a good laugh- that’s what it’s all about! Liaising with other social secs to sort out society night themes to helping the events officer run Footboats, this role is for the social beans among us!
All of the roles above also require regular committee duties, such as being on the door for auditions, collecting money at shows and events, liaising shows, answering questions and emails and generally representing the society.
Our committee is currently at a very large number of 10 members so we are reluctant for roles to be shared, other than stand up directors who are constitutionally held at 2 positions, but do message us if you have any questions.
You must be a member to run and to vote. A membership is £3
We look forward to seeing you there,
