We celebrate 50 years of the Class 50 diesel-electric locomotive.
Tickets available to pre-book shortly.
The British Rail Class 50 was a class of 50 diesel locomotives designed to haul express passenger trains at 100mph. Built by English Electric at the Vulcan Foundry in Newton-le-Willows between 1967 and 1968, the Class 50's were initially on a 10-year lease from English Electric Leasing, and were employed hauling express passenger trains on the, then non-electrified, section of the West Coast Main Line between Crewe and Scotland.
Alongside our own Class 50s, there will be a number of visiting Class 50s too, for three days of 'Hoover' action!
— Intensive operation of Class 50 hauled services.
— We'll attempt to host the largest operational gathering of one loco type ever staged in preservation (steam or diesel). We need to have 10 working locos to achieve this…
— Commemorative merchandise
