Help Midlands born poet Bobby Parker launch his excellent new Offord Road Books poetry collection, Working Class Voodoo.
Working Class Voodoo is Bobby's 2nd collection following on from his critically acclaimed debut Blue Movie (Nine Arches, 2014).
His poems push at questions of contemporary masculinity, of the domestic and of the bonds of family, our unreliability, our desires, our addictions and our weaknesses are both indulged and confronted. Working Class Voodoo is a confessional and a challenge, and a swampy, seductive ride into the night.
‘[These poems] present a fresh challenge (and genuine cause for alarm) to the cosy refinements and polite distinctions of the vast majority of contemporary British poetry.’ — Sam Riviere
Join us for a rare outing in Birmingham for a poet that the Midlands can be proud of.
Providing reading support for Bobby will be excellent Birmingham poets Roz Goddard, Jess Davies and Leon Priestnall.
