Join us from 26th May – 3rd June 2018, when we will be celebrating all things giraffe and raising funds for giraffe conservation at the same time! 🦒

ACTIVITIES…
• Become a Giraffe Ranger by going on patrol around the Discovery Trail, learning about our giraffe as you go. There will be a prize at the end for those who have proven they have what it takes to be a Giraffe Ranger!

• Our Craft Club will be open daily from 12:00 — 15:00, where you have the chance to take part in some giraffe-themed crafts to take home!

• Listen to our Giraffe Talks, exclusively held this week, at 11:30 & 15:30 at the Encounter Stage.

PROTECT GIRAFFE FUNDRAISING…

• Giraffe numbers have dropped from 155,000 in the 1980s to fewer than 100,000 today. This is a drop of almost 40% in the last 30 years.

• People think giraffe are all over Africa but nowadays this is not true. In fact, there are four times as many elephants as giraffe left in Africa. They are already extinct in at least seven countries in Africa.

• Loss of habitat is a major reason for the decline of giraffes. Humans are increasing in number and we, our homes and our farms are taking up more and more room.

• Poaching and illegal hunting are also causing big threats to giraffe. Giraffe are easy to hunt and a lot of people can get a meal out of one giraffe. This means they are hunted for meat, especially in poor areas where there is not much law enforcement.

• All the funds raised from this week will go to the Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF), towards the GCF Nubian Giraffe Conservation Programme in East Africa. WORCESTER STANDS TALL…

• Our Safari Academy will be exhibiting work from local schools as they raise money for St. Richard’s Hospice, as part of the ‘Worcester Stands Tall’ campaign. For 10 weeks this summer, Worcester’s streets, parks & open spaces will be brought to life by giraffes. Individually designed, beautifully created, majestic giraffes as you’ve never seen them before!
